Two outs. Bases loaded. We are down 9-7. It is the bottom of the 6th, the last inning. Winner goes to the champion game for district Little League. My son is making slow strides towards the plate. He has been here before. He took a sweep 40 yards to win a football game. He threw a 35 yard touchdown pass on the final drive to beat a local rival. I can count three game winning shots in two years alone in basketball. He has been here before. He has “it” whatever “it” is. I was nervous and confident at the same time. The fifth times he comes through you start to believe.
Then it happened. He was called back to the dugout: Pinch hitter. I wanted to throw up.
I felt bad for the kid that came up. He struck out swinging. He is a good kid, but it was not his spot. It was my son’s. And there is nothing worse than not being able to do what you were created for.
What were you created for? Not this. Chances are you are miles from living the life God intended for you, unleashing the dream God has planted in you. And when you are robbed, or surrender, what you were made for, the person who steps up will always miss the mark. Always.
The good news of faith is this: your Head Coach will never call you back to the dugout. If anything he is trying to get you off the bench, into the game and in the right position. He is setting you up to shine in the ways that give you joy and give him glory. The only way holding us back is ourselves. Let me say that again. The only one holding us back is ourselves. Always.
